niv-boys-bibleThis is for the boys!

The NIV Boys Bible is marketed toward boys, obviously. Does it live up to its marketing?

It is going to take a little more than a picture of a metal step platform and some Phillips screw heads to make a Bible geared specifically toward boys.

The NIV Boys Bible has some great features. It seems any Bible marketed to children needs to have book introductions, application points, and things to help bridge the enormous cultural gaps. However, in a rush to market a Bible specifically to boys, this iteration feels a little lacking. This full-text “boys” Bible could have any gender as its audience. There is nothing “boy” specific (other than possibly “grossology”) about this Bible other than the metal-like picture on the front cover.

Because one could use this with both genders doesn’t take away from the great features or the amazing content of the Scriptures. However there is one barrier to a girl using this Bible: The fact that it was “boys” Bible written on the front.

All in all, the NIV Boys Bible is a solid, feature-packed, full-text of the Bible written to an audience of elementary-aged kids.

It works… even if it has “boys” Bible written on the cover!
